Although killswitch had the a similar cover system, it no where near popularized it to the point where it is used consistently with many 3rd person shooters today: UC, UC2, Dark Sector, etc...
Gears really made it work, especially as a generation starter.
Such a hard thing to come up with 10 games that are the most important.
I would throw in Gears of War for its use of the cover system.
I also think Mirror's Edge deserves some recognition.
And sorry, but I really think Farmville deserves something as well.
I guess I would add in Indigo Prophecy/Heavy Rain also.

All of you people who read this website claiming you are "gamers," take a look at Steve Weibe, Billy Mitchell, and Walter Day. These guys are the REAL gamers.
Also check out The King of Kong, a documentary about Steve's first attempt to unseat Billy Mitchell as the highest scorer in DK. Amazing movie that makes us all understand that gaming can be a real olympic event.

I lost a lot of study time playing that thing on my PS2. It just takes so much time to water the plants, milk the cow, put the chickens out, give a present to my sweetie, cut the lawn, dig up potatoes, train the dog, buy some grain, make a pie, and sleep.
But god I loved that game.
I'm always disappointed at these lists because they don't miss what I consider my favorite "scary game/psychological thriller": I have no mouth and I must scream.
It's incredible.
Other then that, the list is pretty ho-hum.
YEs! The first one left so much to be desired. Let's hope for a good sequel.
